Activism

The artist’s work can reflect human experience in both verbal and nonverbal expressions- shaping society’s emotions, imagination, interpretations of events, and history itself. Newest is situated at the intersection of art and activism and supports arts ability to speak to social justice and activate change. In this curated collection of stories, we celebrate the diverse and vibrant voices of IBPOC artists who have harnessed the power of art to challenge systemic inequalities and amplify their perspectives from within lands claimed by Canada. Through a myriad of mediums including painting, sculpture, photography, and performance, these artists confront issues of racism, colonialism, identity, and justice.

These works serve as a poignant reminder of the enduring resilience and creativity of IBPOC communities that have long been absent from arts publications. Our hope is this platform will serve as a safe space for dialogue, reflection, and transformation.
